LG will show off a five new notebooks and desktops at CES 2012, including two "Super" Ultrabooks it claims have a speed advantage on a growing field of competitors.
LG has unveiled a good portion of its CES lineup today, showing off four new laptops and an all-in-one 3D PC. Two of the laptops meet Intel’s Ultrabook specs (an Ultrabook is mostly just a really thin laptop with flash memory instead of a moving hard drive), and the two others have 3D technology to make up for their bulk. Interestingly, all five products run on Intel’s speedy second generation Core i7 processor. Below is a very brief rundown of the new lineup. Windows 7 is also the OS of choice for these Ultrabooks.

  • lg-ultrabook-z330-held-up-handZ330 Super Ultrabook: 13.3-inch HD screen, boots up in 10 seconds, 4GB RAM, 120-256GB SATA3 Solid State Drive (SSD)
  • Z430 Super Ultrabook: 14-inch HD screen, boots in 12 seconds, up to 8GB RAM, dual SSD and regular Hard Drive
  • P535 Slim Notebook: 15.6-inch HD LED screen, chassis is the size of a normal 14-inch laptop, Nvidia Geforce graphics card
  • A540 laptop: 15.6-inch Full HD screen, glasses-free 3D display, Nvidia GT555M graphics card, 3D editing program
  • LV V300 All-in-One PC: desktop PC where the computer and screen are one, Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) 3D technology, 23-inch Full HD screen, 178 degree viewing angle, touch control

What we’re worried about: battery life. No where in its press materials does LG mention the battery life of the laptops, meaning it probably isn’t very good. Extended battery life is a major part of the industry’s push toward thinner designs built on flash hard drives. We also don’t know yet is how much these laptops will cost or exactly when they’ll come out. LG says all five will launch sometime in the first three months of 2012. We’ll have more coverage at CES.
