How 3D Works.

Our eyes are spaced apart from each other, which means our left and right retinas see objects at slightly different angles. In real life, the brain merges these two images into a single three-dimensional image. To recreate this experience of depth on television, a 3D TV will display two separate but overlapping images of the same scene simultaneously, and at slightly different angles as well. One image is intended for the left eye, the other for the right. A pair of Active Glasses helps viewers perceive the two 2D images as one 3D image.

New iPhone App Lets Users Talk To Each Other

The latest blockbuster iPhone application, or "app," is Squawky-Talky, an application that allows users to broadcast their voice in real-time to other iPhone owners.

"It's pretty cool," noted iPhone user Josh Carlisle, 20, of Freehold, N.J. "I was going to text my buddy Todd, but then I used this app and we were able to talk to each other. I was like, Dude, it's Josh!and Todd was like, Dude!

"Did I mention it was pretty cool?" asked Carlisle.

The $2.99 application has been downloaded more than 150,000 times since its release last month, but, like many iPhone apps, it has been the subject of some controversy.

"It's very annoying to have to listen to these people yak at each other," said Randy Peregrine, 24, of Dallas, Tex., referring to the Squawky-Talky users. "I find it distracting when I'm trying to shake my baby to death."

Upon further questioning, Peregrine explained that he was referring to Baby Shaker, the iPhone app recently banned by Apple, and not an actual baby. "I'm not some sicko," he said.

Probably of greater concern, though, is the assertion by the Better Business Bureau that the app doesn't do anything that the iPhone can't already do when you buy it - namely, allow you to talk to people.

But William Breniger, who designed the Squawky-Talky app, takes issue with that claim. "For one thing, when you use our app to talk to somebody, the screen turns a very subtle shade of red," he noted.

"Plus, when you use Squawky-Talky, you're not just making a call - you're squawkin', baby!," he added, pointing to the lettering on his "You're Squawkin' Baby!" t-shirt.

Apple, for its part, has said it has no plans to pull the app. "We are really only concerned about applications that contain obscene, pornographic, offensive or defamatory content, or endangered babies, or that make fun of Jesus," said Apple spokesperson Kerri Henderson. "Also, Nine Inch Nails. They just suck."

Meanwhile, consumers don't seem to have a problem with the app, although that may be because they're uninformed. When told that he could talk to people with his iPhone even without Squawky-Talky, Josh Carlisle responded with surprise.

"Whoa. I thought it was just for Web surfing and making fart noises," he said. "I have got to squawk Todd about this."

Mercedes-Benz Reveals 2012 CLS

It wasn’t too long ago when we reported that Mercedes-Benz was ending production of the first generation CLS class. Over the weekend, Mercedes-Benz sent out a press release revealing the second generation CLS. The four-door coupe will make its debut at the 2010 Paris motor show. More details and pictures are below.

The interior of the 2012 CLS-Class is distinguished by a timeless design which combines discreet elegance with innovative details and handcrafted perfection. The refined interior compliments the use of high-quality trim elements, located on the instrument panels, center console and door linings. Customers can choose between high-gloss brown burl walnut or high-gloss black ash. For an even more progressive look, black piano lacquer or carbon fiber trim elements are also available. New CLS customers will be able to choose from five different interior colors and four types of premium leather.

No official engine specs have been disclosed but eMercedesBenz predicts the new CLS will sport a 3.5-liter direct-injected V6 and for those looking for more power, an optional 4.6-liter V8 that fetches 430 horsepower will be available and a AMG edition that could sport a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8.

Looking at the new Ferrari V4 Motorcycle Concept all I can say is Wow! The new Ferrari V4 superbike was designed by Amir Glink. I can tell this bike will be super fast since it’s packed with a modified engine from a Ferrari Enzo! The hand controls are from a F-16 fighter jet and buttons are from a Forumla 1 race car.

You May be Able to Buy A Sixth Sense

A couple of years ago at TED, we heard from a young grad student named Jeff Han. Jeff showed off a new technology. This technology showed off a new type of interface that anyone who watched the elections on CNN is now familiar with, but at the time no one had seen – the multi-touch. It’s on your I-phone and you are going to see it more and more places. Everyone that was in the audience knew that we were among the first to see a new technology that was going to take off.

Today we got to see another such technology. MIT Media Lab researcher Pattie Maes showed a technology that her team has been working on that allows us to integrate data with our other senses. The device that she showed us built from off the shelf parts (like a simple web cam) “sees,” and can search for information based on what it sees. For example, you can look at a book in a bookstore, and the devise will pull up an Amazon review and project it onto the book pages for you to read. If you see something you would like to take a picture of, you simply form your hands into a frame, the device “sees” it, and takes a picture of what you have in the frame. It can also project numbers onto your hand which then act as a keyboard for your cell phone.

My words can not do justice to this invention, but my sense is that you will see it soon enough – it is simply is a technology that has to make it out of the lab, and according to the inventor – will cost about the same as today’s cellphone. It is a bit bulky, but remember, it is a prototype.

The name given to Pakistani version of Corner Shot Gun is POF eye , with POF short for Pakistan Ordnance Factories. This product first came to limelight in late 2008 during the IDEAS 2008 in Karachi. Chairman POF Board Lt Gen Syed Sabahat Husain told the visiting delegates at IDEAS 2008 that this new product of POF may meet the requirement of law enforcing agencies in order to curb the terrorist activities. The live demonstration of this gun was also shown to the delegates.

Motorolla

New Motorola Rush 2 photos online has been on mobile-review site today. The Rush 2 has a model number and A455 from Verizon Wireless with CDMA network. Without a standard numeric keypad, it has a QWERTY sliding keyboard and navigation buttons below the display. According to the source, it could also be outfitted with a touch screen to respond to the needs of the QWERTY keyboard.

Motorola Rush 2 was first leaked in late December last year on BoyGeniusReport, detail specification of the messaging device is not yet clear at the moment.

3G technology

International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT--2000), better known as 3G or 3rd Generation, is a generation of standards for mobile phones and mobile telecommunications services fulfilling specifications by the International Telecommunication Union.^[1] Application services include wide-area wireless voice telephone, mobile Internet access, video calls and mobile TV, all in a mobile environment. Compared to the

older 2G and 2.5G standards, a 3G system must allow simultaneous use of speech and data services, and provide peak data rates of at least 200 kbit/s according to the IMT-2000 specification. Recent 3G releases, often denoted 3.5G and 3.75G, also provide mobile broadband access of several Mbit/s to laptop computers and smartphones.

The following standards are typically branded 3G:

• the UMTS system, first offered in 2001, standardized by 3GPP, used primarily in Europe, Japan, China (however with a different radio interface) and other regions predominated by GSM 2G system infrastructure. The cell phones are typically UMTS and GSM hybrids. The original and most widespread radio interface is called W-CDMA. A new generation of cellular standards has appeared approximately every tenth year since 1G systems were introduced in 1981/1982. Each generation is characterized by new frequency bands, higher data rates and non backwards compatible transmission technology. 4G systems are expected to appear in 2011-2013 (pre-4G systems like LTE and mobile WiMAX have already appeared), and fifth generation systems after 2020. The iPad is a tablet computer designed and developed by Apple. It is particularly marketed as a platform for audio and visual media such as books, periodicals, movies, music, and games, as well as web content. At about 700 grams (25 ounces), its size and weight are between those of most contemporary smartphones and laptop computers. Apple released the iPad in April 2010, and sold 3 million of the devices in 80 days.

The iPad runs the same operating system as the earlier iPod Touch and iPhone, albeit a slightly older version. (The versions are to be synchronized in September 2010.) It can run its own applications as well as ones developed for the iPhone. Without modification, it will only run programs approved by Apple and distributed via its online store.

Like iPhone and iPod Touch, the iPad is controlled by a multitouch display sensitive to up to eleven fingers — a break from most previous tablet computers, which used a pressure-triggered stylus. The iPad uses Wi-Fi or a 3G mobile data connection to browse the Internet, load and stream media, and install software. The device is managed and synced by iTunes on a personal computer via usb cable.

Media reaction to the device has generally been neutral or positive, with more positive reaction after the device was launched.

So you’re extremely happy with your new iPhone 3GS, and are actively searching for means and ways to enhance your iPhone experience regardless of where you are. In addition, it will also have its batteries charged up in the process, giving users the convenience of a charged headset at all times. This has led me to think though, won’t charging the MoGo Talk sip even more juice from your iPhone’s battery, which leaves you with less battery than before to carry out conversations? Well, at least we do know the MoGo Talk’s minimalist design will allow one to fold the headset flat easily, snapping it in and out of its protective case in a jiffy.

iPod nano updated

So the yearly cycle continues, with yet another iPod being updated this time round. Apple’s event at San Francisco saw the appearance of Steve Jobs to the masses, and it goes without saying the man had a hand in unveiling the latest iPod nano to the crowds, now in its fifth iteration. What makes the iPod nano so special this time round? Well, Apple has decided to throw in a video camera, a microphone and a speaker to what is already deemed as the most popular portable media player in the world, allowing music aficionados to shoot short video clips (limited by its memory, of course) regardless of where they are. These video clips can then be viewed over the computer after performing a quick and painless transfer, and further uploaded onto YouTube if you’re so inclined.

iPhone Steering Wheel: MarioKart Never Had it so Good

Even though the included steering wheel for MarioKart was just a cheap piece of plastic, it pales in comparison to this racing wheel for the iPhone/iPod touch.

Digital Steering Wheel from CTA comes comes with grip with a bigger radius, not to mention a suction cup mount that adheres to any flat surface. The angle which the user wants to play is also adjustable.

It works for the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch. It comes with about 4 “mounts” that the user has to insert their particular Apple device in, and then snap it in to the center of the wheel. I have included a video that you can see after the jump if you want more info.

The iPhone 3GS was just unveiled by Apple last week at WWDC in San Francisco, and while it did not set the world alight like the original iPhone did a couple of years ago, we’re pretty sure that it is going to do pretty well on the sales front simply because it is an iPhone and bears the famous Apple trademark, being simple and intuitive to use in addition to its versatility compared to other more business-oriented smartphones. Well, one of the major drawbacks would be having to consign oneself to a 2-year contract if you want to get the iPhone 3GS for a cheap price, otherwise an unlocked unit will burn quite a big hole in your pocket. There is a method to circumvent this, however, with a new SIM card that will make unlocking the latest iPhone 3GS handsets a snap in a much simpler process than ever before.

If you have a gadget you rely heavily on that requires AA batteries, you might invest in this battery charger. It’s always nice to have a battery charger at home, but if you’re outside of the house when your gadget dies, that won’t help you. Usually that leaves you stuck buying new batteries, well instead of doing that you can charge up your batteries within your car.

Most of us have had the joy of dealing with a dead battery in our car and somehow it always seems to happen under the worst of conditions. You know the ones, dark and either snowing or raining. It being dark is definitely a requirement though. Well with these jumper cables you won’t have quite so much difficulty managing to charge your battery in the dark. These cables might look a touch alien, but they’ll still do the trick.

Picture the first cars that were ever assembled, such as the Model T and what not. They look very different than the cars than the cars of today, right? I suppose that automobile design has a certain (for lack of a better word) evolution to it.

So let’s hit the fast forward button to see what the shape of cars will be in the future. I’m not certain what you were thinking, but I never would have come up with this. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that designer Ralph Tayler-Webb’s Halcyon car is ugly, I’m just saying that I wouldn’t have gone with such an indescribable, almost amorphous, shape.

Not the first time that I have used dialogue from The Matrix to introduce a new prod

uct. This seems to happen every time I report on a product with a name that

sounds like “NEO“. Today it is the Nio security system.

The Nio is a very simple concept.

It uses “tags” that are synced via Bluetooth to a mobile device. These tags can be placed on briefcases, expensive gadgets, or anything else that you don’t want to let out of your sight. There’s a video of it after the jump.

Growing up a fan of Dick Tracy, I longed to have Dick’s cool watch radio phone which enabled him to communicate with headquarters. But in reality, the deployment of such a device has been left “wanting,” mostly do to reception problems due to analog cell systems. But with the advent of digital carriers and broadband highspeed wireless internet, the promise is now hopeful for not only improved cellular audio capability, but video capability as well. And that means, a video watchphone is now a reality. Well, I’m excited.

A video watch phone is definitely cool. But will it work?

In addition to being able to make standard and video calls, the GD910 can also make text messages and goes completely wireless with a bluetooth headset so the user doesn’t have to scream to talk. The GD910 also sends email and has voice commands to access it’s features. And there’s even a cool, stereo mp3 player. Oh, and it’s a watch, too. Fancy that.

The LG GD910 Watchphone, will be available August 27th in limited quantities from Orange in the UK, but it won’t be cheap. It’ll cost about $1,000 US, and that doesn’t include a monthly contract fee, details of which have yet to be announced. But you can bet that with bandwidth for video and punitive fees for going past arbitrarily small data caps, that this technology may be priced right out of existence to anyone but business and government personnel.
